So what is echo for SharePoint 2007?
A super-tool for SharePoint administrators to manage the SharePoint platform:
It allows them to replicate changes and settings to multiple site collections and farms, such as between Development, Staging and Production environments.
It can manage your migration from SPS 2003 to MOSS 2007 by provisioning your new Site and Metadata taxonomy, importing content to the new structure and deploying design, workflow and web parts.
If SharePoint is a productivity tool for users, echo is the productivity tool for administrators.
What's new in this version?
echo for SharePoint 2007 has been re-written and re-architected from the ground up to help the IT professional powerfully update, test, deploy and configure the SharePoint platform. It has additional features to deal with new aspects of SharePoint such as Workflows, Content Types, Features and Solutions.
How does it work?
It is based on a series of wizards. You can point it at a source site and push changes made there to settings, security, design, content types and workflow out to multiple other sites. You can even push these changes out to remote farms. and to environments like from development to test to production. You can also batch and schedule tasks together.
